Details on the operation of the K1CV Link station

Station Composition

This station uses the following equipment

Thin Client Computer
EchoLink software is running on a modified HP t5730 Thin Client computer using WinXP. The DOM was replaced with a 64Gb SSD allowing for extra room for a full XP installation and additional software. The ThinClient cost $20 on eBay and runs on a 12v 2.5A power supply. Excellet little computer for this with plenty of processing power for additional background software.
Audio Card
For convenience, the audio runs through a Plantronics USB dongle and not the sound chip within the ThinClient.

Audio Processing

This station uses

Audio Leveling Hardware

Due to uncalibrated and unleveled autio streams caused by poor engineering practices, many audio streams on EchoLink are either too "hot" or too "soft" making for frustrating listening experience.

To reduce listener fatigue, ADDITIONAL hardware used in conjunction to the EchoLink setup to process and "level" audio inconsistencies coming from the audio stream.

EchoLink does NOT have this leveling function so this is a work-around to the numberous issues of poor audio levels on EchoLink..

Analog audio processing hardware helps elleviate listern fatigue and the frustration of volume adjustment during the connection experience.

Input levels AND outpout levels into the EchoLink audio stream are processed in this station's configuration.
